From China’s leading search engine, comes Baidu Antivirus for Windows

From Baidu, the Chinese search engine and web services company, comes Baidu Antivirus, a recently launched a free antivirus software for Windows. The freeware Baidu Antivirus claims to be an ultra light weight solution for Windows and promises to keep your Windows machine free of malware.

Installing an anti-virus or a security software, after installing Windows is a must.  This helps protect our Windows computer from viruses and other security threats. It is also important to keep your security software up to date at all times.

Baidu Antivirus appears to have an easy to use interface with several advanced configuration options, and is compatible with 10 mainstream security software.

This security software combines the Baidu Antivirus Engine and Baidu Cloud Security Engine with the Avira Antivirus engine. Having multiple Antivirus engine will help give complete protection against all online threats. Depending on the perceived threats, it intelligently auto-choose different engines viz Baidu AntiVirus, Baidu Cloud or Avira. The Cloud security helps in quickly identifying unknown virus. Its independent local virus database detects local virus.

Avira’s SAVAPI anti-malware SDK makes integrating Avira security technology simple and cost-effective. Baidu will use Avira’s scanning engine for its security and optimization products globally.

Other features include Automatic Updates, Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS), scan reports, Real-time protection, Proactive Defense, and more.

Baidu recently invested in KingSoft, the makers of KingSoft AntiVirus – and so it is quite possible, as some believe, that its own AntiVirus engine is based on Kingsoft’s.

Avira and Baidu appear to have entered into a mutually beneficial arrangement, where users of Avira Free AntiVirus 2013 can download and install Baidu PC Faster bundle.

I have not tried this software. It appears to have been targeted at users from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, etc. So if anyone has any feedback to give about this antivirus, you may do so in the comments section.
