AVG Free 2012 AntiVirus for Windows released

AVG has released it range of security products for 2012. Among them is the very popular AVG Free AntiVirus software.

There appear to be many improvements made in this version. To start with, it has reduced by over 40%, the size of its virus definations. The number of processes has also been reduced from 16 to 11 and it now uses 20% less memory than its previous versions.

It now includes a new monitoring tool called AVG Advisor which automatically warns you when your browser consumes too much memory.

AVG 2012 will now also warn you against ransomware.

Its Link Scanner tool has also been improved. Strangely this very Link Scanner tools used to earlier block our Windows Club Security Forums for reasons best know to them. Our appeal did not change this situation inspite of their assurance that the issue would be addressed. So we hope that the Link Scanner has improved enough so as to not block genuine websites too.

Greatly improved, I must say. Got better performance than with Avira. I kept it.
