Recently, I tried connecting to a remote machine from my laptop using the VMware Horizon Client. However, even when entering all the details correctly, I couldn’t connect to the remote machine as it sometimes gets stuck when loading or connecting, sometimes, I received a VDPConnect Failure, whereas, on other occasions, it doesn’t throw an error. I have noticed that the VMware Horizon Client is not working WiFi, as when I am connected to my company’s ethernet, things work smoothly. Therefore, in this post, we will see what you can do to resolve this issue.
VDPCONNECT_CONNECT_TLS: The connection to the gateway or the remote computer could not be established because of a TLS error. This could be due to a TLS handshake failure, a certificate check failure or other related errors. If the issue persists, please contact your system administrator.
This is not the only error this post is for. These solutions mentioned above apply to all VMware Horizon Client Wi-Fi connection errors.
In some cases, the VMware Horizon Client crashes abruptly in the middle of a session or fails to launch on the system. At other times, it starts freezing or gets stuck connecting to the ethernet. You may also encounter an issue during the installation of the VMware Horizon Client. This post covers the issue where your VMware Horizon Client is not connecting to or working on WiFi.
Fix VMware Horizon Client not working on WiFi
If the VMware Horizon Client is not working on WiFi, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Check if your WiFi is working in general
- Set up Cloudflare’s DNS
- Disable HTTP(s) Secure Tunnel
- Reset Network Protocols
- Check your organization’s VPN
Let us discuss them in detail.
1] Check if your WiFi is working in general
First of all, we need to check if the internet is working in general for you. So, once you are connected to a WiFi, try searching for something in your browser and see if it takes way too much time to load, alternatively, you can use a free Internet speed tester to do the same. If you notice that the Internet is not working or the bandwidth is too high, reboot the network device, that is your router, and see if that helps. In case of a failure, you should contact your ISP and ask them to resolve the issue.
2] Set up Cloudflare’s DNS
Some users were able to connect to the remote machine using their mobile hotspot but failed to do the same using their WiFi, that’s because different ISPs have different DNS. To eliminate this, we shall set up a widely known and reliable DNS such as that of Cloudflare. In order to do the same, you can follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Control Panel by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Change the View by to Large icons.
- Go to Network and Sharing Center.
- Click on Change adapters settings.
- Right-click on your WiFi and click on Properties.
- Look for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and double-click on it.
- Tick Use the following DNS Server and set 1.1.1.1 in the Primary DNS section and 1.0.0.1 in the
- Secondary DNS section.
- In the case of the IPv6 server, enter 2606:4700:4700::1111 in the Primary DNS Server section AND 2606:4700:4700::1001 in the Secondary DNS Server.
- Click Apply > Ok.
Finally, you can reboot your machine and check if the issue persists.
Alternatively, you can use the Google Public DNS.
3] Disable HTTP(s) Secure Tunnel
An HTTP(S) Secure Tunnel is a method of creating a secure, encrypted connection over the internet using the HTTPS protocol. There is a high chance that you are not able to connect to the remote machine because of the fact that it is enabled and doesn’t coincide with your organization’s security policy. Therefore, we are going to disable it using the steps mentioned below.
- First of all, open the VMware Horizon Agent Server’s page.
- Go to Settings > Servers > Connection Server.
- Now, navigate to Edit connection server settings, and then untick Use Secure Tunnel connection to machine to disable HTTP(s) Secure Tunnel.
- Finally, save the settings and start your machine.
Check if the issue persists.
4] Reset Network Protocols
If after making all the changes mentioned earlier, you encounter the same exact error problem, we recommend you reset TCP/IP, flush DNS, and reset Winsock. You can create a batch file for the same and once that is done, check if the issue is resolved.
5] Check your organization’s VPN
Every organization has a VPN that facilitates the use of a remote desktop. If you are not connected to one, you will not be able to access it. Therefore, we recommend you check if you are connected to a VPN, check if others are facing the same issue, and if they face this while being connected to a VPN. If this is a universal problem for your company, there is nothing you can do other than inform your IT department and ask them to resolve the issue.
Hopefully, you will be able to resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this post.

Does VMware work on hotspot?
Yes, VMware can work on a hotspot, but there are a few considerations. You need to provide a stable and strong internet connection. However, performance might not be as robust as on a wired network due to potential fluctuations in internet speed and latency. Additionally, using a hotspot for running virtual machines can pose security risks, so it’s important to use secure connections like VPNs and keep your software updated.
