Get the newer version of Windows to stay up to date. Your version of Windows has reached the end of service

Fix Your version of Windows has reached the end of service
The “Your version of Windows has reached the end of service” message means that your current version of Windows is no longer receiving security updates or support from Microsoft. Due to this, your computer will be vulnerable to security threats. However, a lot of users are noticing this error on a brand-new computer, so, it is safe to say that at times, this message can either be a glitch or an error that can be resolved. In this post, we are going to talk about it.
If your version of Windows has reached the end of service, follow the solutions, workaround, and tips mentioned below.
- Check for update
- Use a different method to update your computer
- Repair system image
- Ignore the message
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Check for update
First of all, you need to check if your computer is updated. This issue can be nothing but a glitch that can be resolved; therefore, we recommend you check if an available update can be downloaded. So, when you are on the Settings > Windows Update page where the error message is shown, click on Check for updates, Download, or whatever button appears there. If you can download an update, reboot your computer, and once it starts up again, check if the message is visible. Hopefully, this will do the job for you.
2] Use a different method to update your computer
If you are not able to update your OS from the Settings app, there are other methods that you can try to do the same thing. For this, you need to go to microsoft.com. Once you are there, select your operating system, Windows 11 or Windows 10. If you have selected Windows 11, click on Download Now, whereas, Windows 10 users need to select Update now. Finally, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Alternatively, you can download the Media Creation Tool from the same page for Windows 11/10 and run it. When you get a prompt asking “What do you want to do?”, click on Upgrade this PC now, and follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade your computer.
Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Repair system image
If you cannot upgrade your system and instead encounter an error in the process, you can try repairing your operating system. There are various ways to do the same, we have listed all the methods below, and we recommend you try all of them until your issue is resolved.
- Run sfc /scannow: You can try the System File Checker (SFC) command to scan for and restore corrupt Windows system files.
- Run DISM: If SFC is to no avail, run a DISM scan to scan your system image and repair it.
- Using Windows Installation Media: To fix Windows 11 using installation media, start by downloading the official Windows ISO file. Next, create a bootable USB or DVD, then boot from it during startup and choose the “Repair your computer” option.
- Try FixWin: FixWin is a freeware that can be used to scan your system for faults and repair it.
Once you have repaired your system, open the Windows Update page and check if the issue is resolved.

4] Ignore the message
Ideally, this message was supposed to be sent to Windows 10 users, as it means the version of Windows that they are using is too old and will not receive security patches from Microsoft. Therefore, if you are a Windows 11 user and the solutions mentioned earlier didn’t work for you, just ignore it and wait for new updates.
However, if you are using Windows 10 and are planning to continue using it, you will be at risk of virus and malware attacks. It will expose you to any known security threats, and you will have to be skeptical every time you access the Internet.
So, if you can, upgrade your system. If not, try being a bit more careful if you use Windows 10. Windows 11 users can rest assured that Microsoft is not going to pull back support before the dates mentioned on the learn.microsoft.com page.
If you decide to stay on Windows 10, go to support.microsoft.com to learn about notification-triggering software and delete it if you don’t want to receive notifications.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned above.
