Recently, I noticed a very peculiar issue with my Settings app on Windows 11. I wanted to change the screen resolution to improve the viewing experience; however, I could not find the Display option in the app. In this post, we are going to discuss this issue and see what you can do if the Display option is missing from Windows Settings on Windows 11.
Fix Display Option missing from Windows Settings Windows 11/10
If the Display option is missing from Windows Settings, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Restart your computer
- Reset or repair the Settings app
- Update your Display driver
- Reinstall Graphics drivers
- Check if you have disabled Display Page using the Group Policy
- Reset or reinstall your OS
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Restart your computer
Reboot the computer and see if that helps. If this issue is nothing but a glitch, rebooting the system will do the job. In case, rebooting does not work, move on to the next solution.
2] Reset or repair the Settings app
Reset the Settings app and see. You can repair or reset it, just like other programs. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Hit Win + S to open the Start Search menu.
- Now, search for Settings.
- Once the app appears, right-click on it, and select App settings.
- Now, scroll down and click on Repair.
Wait for the process to complete, then, check if the Display option is back. If it is still absent, go to the same Settings panel and then click on Reset.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, open PowerShell as an administrator and then run the following command.
Get-AppxPackage *windows.immersivecontrolpanel* | Reset-AppxPackage
After running the command, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Update your Display drivers
Due to incompatibility issues caused by old drivers, Windows might not be able to recognize the display and hence will not show display settings. To resolve this issue, we recommend that you update your display drivers. You can follow any of the following methods to do so.
- Go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest version of the Graphics driver.
- Install Driver and Optional Updates from Windows Settings (in some cases, even the Windows Updates tab is missing, so, make use of other methods).
Once you have updated your drivers, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Reinstall Graphics drivers
If that does not help, completely uninstall the Display drivers. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click on your driver, and select Uninstall device > Uninstall.
- Wait for the process to complete. Once it is done, your screen will go black for a few seconds. Once it is back, right-click on Display adapters and select Scan for hardware changes.
This will install a generic Windows driver on your computer. You can then reboot your computer, and then run the downloaded Graphics driver setup file to install the latest version of the driver from there.
5] Check if you have disabled Display Page using the Group Policy
If you are a part of an organization or you like tweaking with the Group Policy Editor, there is a slight chance that you have disabled this page. In order to confirm this, we recommend you open the Group Policy Editor and go to the following location.
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel
Look for Settings Page Visibility, double-click on it, and select Enabled. To hide the Display page, set the value to Hide:Display, and to show only the Display page, set the value to ShowOnly:Display. You can even disable it if you want to restore Settings to default.
6] Reset PC
Last but not least, reinstalling or resetting the operating system worked for many users. We have listed a few methods below that you can try.
- Reinstall Windows using Windows Update
- You can use Reset this PC feature to reset your operating system without losing your files.
- Reset or reinstall your operating system using the Cloud Reset option.
I used the Media Creation Tool to create Installation Media. Then, I ran the setup file and followed the on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this post.
