Some users have encountered a perplexing issue when trying to download files from the Internet; the Task Manager showed 0% disk and network usage, and the download never started. Yet when accessing other online content, the Internet connection worked perfectly. However, there is another scenario where the content is downloading fine, but the Task Manager never displays the Network or Disk usage to be anything but 0%. In this post, we are going to talk about this issue and see what you can do if Task Manager Disk and Network usage are always 0%.
Fix Task Manager Disk and Network usage always 0%
If the Task Manager Disk and Network usage are always 0% or stuck at 30% in Windows 11/10, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Check if the real-time update is paused
- Run Network Troubleshooting using the Get Help app
- Check for the Bottleneck issue
- Check if Windows Network Data Usage (NDU) is enabled
- Update your network drivers
- Troubleshoot in Clean Boot
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Check if the real-time update is paused
First of all, we need to check and ensure that the real-time update speed is set to Paused. It just determines how often the system updates its resource usage report. To get the real-time data quickly, you can set it to High. Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
2] Run Network Troubleshooter using the Get Help
If after updating the Real time update speed, you still couldn’t get the Network usage rating, or if the download is actually not processing, we need to use the Network Troubleshooter. You can run the Get Help Network and Internet Troubleshooter and see if the issue is resolved. To do so, open the Get Help app, search for “Network Troubleshooter”, and then answer the questions mentioned there to resolve the issue. Hopefully, this will resolve your issue.
3] Check for the Bottleneck issue
If your Task Manager always shows disk and network usage near 0% during downloads, there might be a bottleneck that isn’t immediately obvious. This could be due to how your system reads from or writes to the disk, or even how your network settings manage data flow. If your system has both an older HDD and a newer SSD, we can assume that downloads might be defaulting to the slower HDD, causing delays and low activity readings, even though your network connection might be fine.
You need to check if any background processes (like Windows system processes) are consuming resources that could hinder proper disk usage, which in turn might limit download speed. Moreover, if your SSD isn’t being used much, switching the download location to it might resolve the issue, ensuring that your system’s faster storage is fully utilized during downloads.
4] Check if Windows Network Data Usage (NDU) is enabled
One reason the Task Manager may not display Network or Disk usage is the absence of NDU, or Network Data Usage. If the NDU service is disabled, Task Manager won’t be able to display network activity. Usually, it gets disabled if a third-party network tool (e.g., Killer Networking Suite) or antivirus software is disabled.
To do so, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and then run the following command.
sc config ndu start-auto
Finally, reboot your computer.
5] Update your network drivers
We need to keep our network driver updated. So, go ahead and update your network drivers and see if the issue is resolved. Hopefully, this will do the job for you.

6] Troubleshooter in Clean Boot
If nothing works, our last resort is to check if the issue persists in the Clean Boot. This allows us to check if the Task Manager is behaving peculiarly due to the presence of a third-party application. Once you start your computer in Clean Boot state, try downloading something and check the Task Manager simultaneously. If you see real real-time update in the Task Manager, enable processes manually to figure out what’s the cause. And then, uninstall or disable the culprit. This way, you will be able to resolve the issue.
Hopefully, with the help of these solutions, you will be able to resolve the issue.

How to fix Task Manager 0% network?
To resolve the issue where Task Manager displays 0% network usage, first ensure that the real-time update speed is set to High to receive immediate data. Next, run the Network Troubleshooter using the Get Help app to identify and resolve any connection issues. Then, update your network drivers to ensure proper communication with your system. Since these steps address the most common causes, they often restore normal network activity in Task Manager.

Why is my network at 0% in Task Manager?
Your network may show 0% in Task Manager because real-time update settings are paused or the network tracking service is disabled. Next, check that your network drivers are updated and that no background process is interfering with monitoring. Then, since these issues can cause inaccurate readings, adjusting the settings and drivers should restore the proper network usage display.
