Some Windows users have reported that their PC always boots twice before starting. Mostly, the issue results from some misconfiguration that you or an update may have accidentally made to the system’s settings. In this post, we will discuss what you need to do to resolve the issue.
Why does my PC boot 2 times?
Your PC boots twice because there are some changes made to its BIOS that are causing this peculiarity. More often than not, it is the Fast Startup option of Windows or/the Fast Boot of BIOS that triggers this issue. Also, if you overclock the CPU to get the most out of their processor, your PC can sometimes boot twice.

If your PC always boots twice before starting, follow the below solutions to resolve the issue.
- Update your BIOS
- Turn off Fast Startup
- Stop using an overclocking app
- Disable or enable Fast Boot from BIOS
- Make changes to your BIOS settings
- Reset BIOS
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Update your BIOS
Let us start with a solution that doesn’t involve making changes to the BIOS; instead, we will update it. In case, the issue is a result of outdated BIOS, this will do the job for you. So, go ahead and update BIOS. Hopefully, this will do the job for you. In case, the issue is not resolved, move to the next solution.
2] Turn off Fast Startup
Fast Startup allows your computer to start quickly. However, it is notorious for causing issues during the booting process. Since your computer boots twice, Fast Startup could be at fault. We can disable it from the Control Panel. Do keep in mind, that disabling the feature can make the booting process slightly slow, and once Microsoft releases an update addressing this issue, you can re-enable Fast Startup. To disable Fast Startup, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Search out “Control Panel” from the Start Menu.
- Navigate to System and Security > Power Options.
- Select Choose what the power buttons do.
- You then have to click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Disable Turn on fast startup (recommended).
- Click on Save Changes to confirm your action.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Stop using an overclocking app
If you have installed overclocking software to make your computer better for gaming, disable it. Overclocking your CPU does improve its performance for some time, but it can cause issues in the long run. That is why, we recommend disabling any overclocking app you have installed.
4] Disable or enable Fast Boot from BIOS
Just like Fast Startup, Fast Boot assists your computer in starting quicker. However, sometimes, they can conflict with internal Windows processes and can cause issues. That is why, you need to go to BIOS and then check the configuration of Fast Boot. If it is enabled, disable it, and vice-versa.
5] Make changes to your BIOS settings
Now, let us check your BIOS configuration to know if they are configured correctly. There are various BIOS settings that can force your system to boot twice. So, first of all, boot into BIOS firmware. Now, check the following BIOS settings and ensure they are configured as instructed.
- Internal PLL Overvoltage – Disabled (Under AI Tweaker or Extreme Tweaker tab).
- Power on By PCl-E – Enabled (Under Advanced > APM Configuration).
- ErP Ready – Disabled (Under Advanced > APM Configuration).
- Ai Overclock Tuner – Auto (Under AI Tweaker or Extreme Tweaker tab).
- Launch CSM – Disabled (Under Boot).
On your system, the options may have different names and/or are at different locations, as it totally depends on OEM.
6] Reset BIOS
If nothing worked, your last resort is to reset BIOS. Yes, I know the changes you made earlier will all be gone; we can’t allow this to happen. That is why, you need to reset BIOS and check.
We hope you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this post.
