How to update BIOS on Windows 10 computer

  1. Past few months I’ve had deprecation issues with Dell Inspiron 17R devices; it seems from one of their support fora that such Dell devices, where starting out as Windows 8/8.1 machines and upgraded to 10 since, have had their embedded Intel anti-theft go wonky due to recent advances in Windows 10 code..as a result, such devices often go into a “beep beep beep” mode despite no malware, HDD still good, and so on; you get no screen boot flash, just constant beeps until you pull plug and battery; sometimes a number of “flea power” drains cures issue for single use, other times just repeatedly turning device on/off until a boot screen appears is what’s needed; Dell says since Intel a/t is embedded, and cannot be deactivated by them or any user, only cure for now is restore to original Windows 8 or 8.1.

I mention as someone might find your fine article if researching such Dell issue (though Inspirons are UEFI not really BIOS), and if so any seeker should know 8/8.1 Inspirons (or any such Dell device with the symptom) may soon just become nice paperweights or a nice place for a Linux or other OS. Cheers!

  2. Thanks Dan for sharing your experience. I am sure this will be resourceful for many.
