You may run into a situation where normal system sound may work fine, but you may be unable to hear the sounds from any Microsoft Store apps. This is a common Windows 11 audio issue in which Microsoft Store apps (like Netflix, Spotify, Games, Xbox, Photos, etc.) have no sound, even though desktop apps work fine.
No Sound in Microsoft Store apps on Windows 11
The reason behind this is a specific Microsoft Store app that may be using JavaScript. Such an app may typically consist of components, documents, resources, and behaviors developed by using the following technologies:
- HTML (HTML5)
- CSS (CSS3)
- JavaScript (ECMAScript)
The process that hosts and executes a Microsoft Store app using JavaScript is called WWAHost.exe.
If you find that sound is disabled in webpages that are HTML-based, CSS-based, or JavaScript-based, none of the Microsoft Store applications that are ported from the web-based applications will have sound. To fix this, we need to check that “Play sound in Webpage” is enabled in Internet Properties.
Enable sound in Internet Options

To enable sound in Internet Options follow these instructions:
- Search for and open Internet Options
- Under Internet Options click on Advanced Tab
- Under Settings section scroll down and find Multimedia section
- There, make sure you enable all the checkboxes except “Show image downloaded placeholders”
- Click on Apply and click OK
You may now need to reboot the system.
Now, most Microsoft Store applications should be working properly. If it doesn’t, then try the following additional suggestions:
- Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
- Restart Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder & Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Services using Services Manager
- Clear the Microsoft Store Cache
- Reset the affected app via Windows Settings
- Update or reinstall Audio Drivers
- Disable Audio Enhancements
- Check the app’s Audio Permissions in Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Here, make sure that the Microphone access is ON and the affected app has permission
- Press Win+I > System > Sound and scroll down to Advanced > Volume mixer. Here, under Apps, ensure that the app isn’t muted and that the Output device is correct
Remember this method works only if you have sound on other applications BUT not on Microsoft Store applications.
If there is No sound on a Windows computer at all then it might be a driver-related problem. You could, in such cases, try running the built-in Sound Troubleshooter.
I hope you find this solution helpful.
