If a part of your Windows laptop screen is flickering, it could be due to hardware or software. If the screen itself is not broken, you can try to fix the issue without consulting a hardware repairman. In this post, we are going to see what you can do if a part of the laptop screen is flickering.
Part of laptop screen flickering
If a part of your Windows laptop screen is flickering, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Make sure the connection is tight
- Update or reinstall Graphics Drivers
- Adjust display settings
- Check for incompatible applications and services
- Consult a hardware expert
Let us talk about the solutions in detail.
1] Make sure the connection is tight
First of all, we need to ensure that the connection between the graphics card (external) and your laptop is tight. If the connection is loose, your screen may flicker intermittently.
If you can open your laptop, reseat the display ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard. Also, check for cracks, pressure marks, or liquid residue on the screen
2] Update or reinstall Graphics Drivers
One of the most common and useful solutions in this case would be to update or reinstall the GPU driver. You can perform both the solutions separately, i.e, update the driver and then try to reinstall it, but we have a better approach. First of all, go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest version of your Graphics Driver.
Then, follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall your existing driver.
- Open the Device Manager by Win + X > Device Manager.
- Look for Display drivers or Monitor. Expand it.
- Now, right-click on your graphics driver and select Uninstall device.
- Your screen will go back for a few seconds. Once the screen is back, right-click on Display drivers or Monitor and select Scan for hardware changes.
Windows will install a generic display driver. You can then install the Graphics Driver we asked you to download earlier and see if your issue is resolved.
3] Adjust display settings
You should also aim to adjust the display settings and ensure they are set to the recommended options. To do so in Windows 11, you need to open Settings by Win + I, then go to System > Display. Now, set Scale and Display Resolution to the recommended option. Finally, reboot your computer.

4] Check for incompatible applications and services
The screen might also flicker if incompatible programs and services are running on your computer. These services can alter the normal functioning of your display driver and cause issues. To find out the culprit, you need to start your computer in the Clean Boot state. Then, manually enable services to find out which service, after enabling, your screen starts to flicker. If you know the culprit, either uninstall or disable it.

5] Consult a hardware expert
If nothing works, your last resort is to consult someone who can fix or replace your laptop’s screen. A part of it might be broken, or there is some dust or debris stuck between your laptop’s display panel and the screen. You can try to do DIY, but we would recommend against it takes a lot of precision and an amateur can exacerbate the issue.
