In this post, we will show you how to install Google’s Gemini Live AI on a Windows 11 PC as default. Gemini is Google’s most advanced AI model designed to help you brainstorm ideas, generate content, or find ways to get things done. While it is primarily available as a text-based chatbot on the web, a new, mobile conversational experience known as Gemini Live has been introduced for real-time, natural voice interactions, allowing people to have AI assistance on the go.
With Gemini Live, you can converse with the AI hands-free and even interrupt or change commands mid-response to dive deeper into a particular topic, or pause a conversation and come back to it later.
Is there a Gemini desktop app for Windows?
As of now, Google has not released a dedicated desktop app for Gemini AI on Windows. The only way to access Gemini AI is through the text-based chatbot at gemini.google.com. However, if you frequently use the service and want to set it as the default on your Windows 11 PC, there are workarounds available.
How to install Google’s Gemini Live AI in Windows 11 PC as default?
You may install Google’s Gemini Live AI on a Windows 11 PC as default through the following methods:
- Install Gemini Live AI as a Progressive Web App
- Using an Android Emulator
Let us see this in detail.
1] Install Gemini Live AI as a Progressive Web App
A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a web-based application that behaves like a native app on a Windows device. PWAs work through web browsers but can be installed on your desktop, providing a more app-like experience.
Many popular services, including Google’s Gemini AI, offer PWA versions that can be installed directly in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Once installed, the PWA runs like a standalone app, allowing you to access it from the Start menu or desktop without opening a browser.
Follow these steps to install Gemini Live AI as a PWA in Google Chrome:
- Open Google Chrome on your Windows 11 PC.
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- Click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Cast, save and share > Install page as app….
- Click Install in the pop-up window.
Follow these steps to install Gemini Live AI as a PWA in Microsoft Edge:
- Open Microsoft Edge on your Windows 11 PC.
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner or press Alt + F.
- Select Apps > Install this site as an app.
- In the pop-up window, click Install.
Once installed, the Gemini AI app will open in a separate window, just like a standalone app. To open the app, press the Windows key, search for ‘Gemini’, and select the app in the search results.
To access the Gemini app easily, you may pin it to the Start menu or the taskbar.
2] Using an Android Emulator
To use Gemini Live on Windows 11, you can install an Android emulator to run the mobile app. This allows you to access the voice interactions of Gemini Live on your PC, just like on a mobile device.
Here, we are using BlueStacks to demonstrate the process. You can use Andy, NoxPlayer, or any other emulator you prefer.
Go to the official BlueStacks website (www.bluestacks.com). Click Download BlueStacks to get the installer. Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
When finished, BlueStacks will open automatically. Select Google Play Store from the Home tab. Use the search bar to search for ‘Gemini Live’ or simply ‘Gemini’.
Click on the Gemini app in the search results and select Install From Google Play.
A Google Sign-in screen will appear. Click Sign in on the screen and enter your Google account details (the same one you use on your Android phone). Complete the setup process by following the instructions provided by BlueStacks.
After installation, go to the Home screen of BlueStacks. Click the Gemini app icon to open it. You can now interact with Gemini Live using voice commands or text-based input.
For easier access, you can pin BlueStacks to your desktop or taskbar. Right-click on the BlueStacks icon and select Pin to Taskbar or Pin to Start.
I hope this helps.
