We have noticed that the VMware Workstation, as good as it is, has started throwing an error that implies that the host is not able the meet the minimum requirements to run the program. When we tried booting up a virtual machine using the VMware Workstation, we stumbled upon the following error message.
Your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMware Player with Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled.
Fix Your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMware Workstation
If your host does not meet minimum requirements to run VMware Workstation, follow the solutions and workarounds mentioned below.
- Disable Hyper-V
- Make sure to meet the minimum system requirements
- Reinstall VMware Workstation.
1] Disable Hyper-V
VMware Workstation and Hyper-V can’t run simultaneously on the same Windows system because they both require control of the same hardware virtualization features, such as Intel VT-x or AMD-V. When Hyper-V is enabled, it takes exclusive control of these virtualization extensions, preventing VMware Workstation from accessing them.
Essentially, only one hypervisor can use these extensions simultaneously, which leads to incompatibility. However, with some workaround, you can run Hyper-V, VirtualBox and VMware on the same computer. As of now, let us disable Hyper-V and see if that helps. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
- Click on the Turn Windows feature on or off.
- Now, untick Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, and Windows Hypervisor Platform
- Click on Ok once everything is done.
Reboot your computer and see.

2] Make sure to meet the minimum system requirements
Check the minimum system requirements for the VMware Workstation and ensure you can meet it. For example, for Workstation 16, following are the minimum system requirements.
- A compatible 64-bit x86/AMD64 CPU launched in 2011 or later
- 1.3GHz or faster core speed
- 2GB RAM minimum/ 4GB RAM or more recommended
- General Host OS Requirements
- VMware Workstation Pro and Player run on most 64-bit Windows or Linux host operating systems:
- Windows 11/10/8
- Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012
- Ubuntu
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- CentOS
- Oracle Linux
- openSUSE
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
If you can meet the requirement but the Workstation does not start, move on to the next solution.
3] Reinstall VMware Workstation
Our final solution involves uninstalling the old copy of VMware Workstation and install a fresh copy of the same.
Once done, you check if the issue persists.
Do I need to disable Hyper-V for VMware?
