If your computer display suddenly gets too big, you can use these fixes to resolve this issue. Incorrect display resolution makes it difficult to work on a computer. The corrupt graphics card driver and incorrect display resolution settings can cause this problem.
Computer display suddenly too big on Windows 11
The following suggestions will help you if your computer display suddenly gets too big on Windows 11/10.
- Set the display resolution and scale to the recommended
- Check your monitor’s physical controls
- Check the cable connections
- Does the issue occur in particular applications?
- Did you install a program to customize your display resolution?
- Update your graphics card driver
- Install another compatible version of your graphics card driver
- Perform the clean installation of the GPU driver
All these fixes are explained in detail below.
1] Set the display resolution and scale to the recommended
If you changed the display resolution or scale and the problem started occurring after that, you can revert the changes in your system Settings. Keep the resolution to the recommended level.
- Open Windows 11 Settings and go to System > Display.
- Select the recommended options for both Scale and Display resolution.
2] Check your monitor physical controls
You should also check the physical controls on your monitor. They might be the cause of the problem. For information on the functions of physical controls, refer to your monitor’s user manual.
3] Check the cable connections
I suggest one more thing: Check the cable connections and the cable connecting the display to your computer. If another cable is available, connect your display and see if the issue occurs. This will let you know whether the issue is associated with your cable.
4] Does the issue occur in particular applications?
If the issue occurs in some particular applications, such as web browsers, press and hold the Ctrl key and then use your mouse wheel to adjust the resolution in the web browser. If another application is affected by this issue, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling that application.
5] Did you install a program to customize your display resolution?
Many programs are available to customize the display resolution on a Windows computer. If you have installed such a program previously, that might cause this issue. Open the Control Panel and uninstall that application. If you cannot use your computer due to the enlarged display, you can boot in Safe Mode and uninstall that application.
Because you cannot use your computer due to the enlarged display resolution, you need to use Windows Recovery Environment to boot in Safe Mode.
6] Update your graphics card driver
A corrupt graphics card driver is responsible for display issues. This might be the case with you. That’s why I suggest you update your graphics card driver to the latest version. Download the latest version of your graphics card driver from the official website of your computer manufacturer and then uninstall it. If you cannot use your computer, you can download the driver on another working computer and copy its Installer file to your PC through a USB flash storage device. Now, run the installer file to install the most recent version of your graphics card driver.
7] Install another compatible version of your graphics card driver
You can also try installing another compatible version of your graphics card driver (if available). You can boot in Safe Mode (if required).
Follow the steps provided below:
- Open the Device Manager.
- Expand the Display Adapters branch.
- Right-click on your graphics card driver and select Update driver.
- Select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Now, select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Select the Show compatible hardware checkbox.
- Now, select another available version of your graphics card driver.
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
Try installing all the available graphics card driver versions and see which fixes the issue.
8] Perform the clean installation of the GPU driver
If the problem persists, the last resort is to perform the clean installation of the GPU driver. First, download the latest version of your graphics card driver from the official website of your computer manufacturer. Now, install a third-party utility, Display Driver Uninstaller. Boot in Safe Mode and run the DDU utility to remove the graphics card driver completely. After that, you can install the GPU driver by running the exe file you downloaded from the official website.
I hope this helps.
Why is my screen so zoomed in Windows 11?
Incorrect display resolution and scaling settings can cause this problem. Keeping the Scale and Display resolution settings to the Recommended option is always suggested. A corrupt graphics card driver is another cause of this issue.
How to fix PC screen size?
