When entering email addresses, they are separated by a semicolon and not a comma by default. The semicolon is used as a separator for multiple email addresses when typing into the To and Cc section – but can be changed in the Outlook settings to a comma to separate multiple message recipients when sending messages.
In this tutorial, we will explain how to allow commas to separate message recipients in Outlook. A Recipient is the email address for the recipients. Overall, email recipients can have three recipients, namely To, Cc, and Bcc.
The To recipient is the primary recipient of the email and the email address you send the message to. The Cc recipient means carbon copy. Cc aims to notify everyone in the To and those in the Cc who receive the email. The Bcc recipient means Blind Carbon Copy. The purpose of the Bcc is to send mail to the recipients that you indicate. The message added to the Bcc box will not be shown to any other recipients who received the message. When creating a new email, you will not see the Bcc recipient in the new email window by default; you have to turn it on to see it in the new message window.
How to separate email addresses in Outlook using commas
Open Outlook.
Click File on the menu bar.
On the Backstage View, click Options.
An Outlook Options dialog box will appear.
Inside the dialog box, click Mail on the left pane.
Go to the section Send Messages and click the check box of Commas can be used to separate multiple message recipients.
Then click OK.
When typing multiple emails in the New Email window, place a comma to separate them; you will notice the email addresses are separated.
When typing the email addresses into the recipient boxes without the comma settings and using a comma, the email addresses will not be separated.
