Fix Another scan is in progress error in DELL SupportAssist
To fix the ‘Another scan is in progress‘ error in Dell SupportAssist in Windows 11/10, use these solutions:
- Perform a clean installation of Dell SupportAssist
- Manually install drivers from the Dell website
Let us see this in detail.
1] Perform a clean installation of Dell SupportAssist
A clean installation of Dell SupportAssist involves completely uninstalling the software and all its related components, and then reinstalling the latest version. This often resolves errors caused by corrupted files, conflicting settings, and outdated components.
To perform a clean install, start by uninstalling Dell SupportAssist via the Settings app or the Control Panel.
Next, open Services Manager (press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter) and check if the following services still exist after uninstalling SupportAssist:
- Dell Client Management Service
- Dell Data Vault Collector
- Dell Data Vault Processor
- Dell Data Vault Service API
- Dell SupportAssist
- Dell TechHub
If they exist, it indicates that remnants of the software remain on your system. So you need to manually remove the services to completely uninstall Dell SupportAssist.
Launch an elevated Command Prompt and type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each command:
SC DELETE "SupportAssistAgent" SC DELETE "DDVDataCollector" SC DELETE "DDVRulesProcessor" SC DELETE "DDVCollectorSvcApi"
Next, open File Explorer and navigate to the following path:
C:\ProgramData
If you see the SupportAssist folder there, delete it (you may have to enable the hidden files and folders to see all folder content).
Next, open the Dell folder and delete the SupportAssist folder from there (if exists). Now restart your system to ensure all services and temporary files related to SupportAssist are fully cleared.
Once this is done, go to Dell’s official SupportAssist page and download the software’s latest version. Install and run the software and see if the error is gone.
