If you have a big LAN, you can use Lanshark to search for your files on the LAN, and you can also use it to track your downloads. As it forms a peer to peer connection, the downloading of files is fast and can be paused or stopped and can be continued when ever you wish. The peer list at left shows you the connections you have with the different PCs.

P2P Technology

Some of you may have used BitComet or uTorrent. All those downloaders use P2P technology to download the files. In the same manner Lanshark also uses P2P technology to send and share files. P2P means peer-to-peer. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application, so using peer-to-peer technology you get the good download speed and a good network to download the files.

Interface

The interface of the program is really nice and easy to use. The additional Web Interface performed really well when I used it – and it is a bonus that comes with the application. When I tried to connect with a computer, the web interface connected really fast.

    This would be great for impromptu LAN parties, but for anything organized, I could see a standard Windows file share being better and easier.

    it does not say anywhere on the site it will work with win 7 or 64 bit machines

    On a LAN, P2P doesn’t really bring anything to the table. You may as well use standard sharing technologies through Windows Shares, NFS, etc. P2P’s real benefit comes from downloading from decentralized storage which normally is not the case for a LAN.
