If you’re a big fan of Reddit, then you might want to give the Reddit Enhancement Suite or RES a test drive. We admit, this is mainly for the hardcore Reddit user, but we see no reason others might not want to give it a try. This browser add-on for Firefox, Chrome, Opera increases Reddit’s experience & usefulness, & is a tool every Redditor should be using.
Don’t worry, RES doesn’t make huge changes to Reddit where it is impossible to recognize the popular social news platform. However, the changes are significant enough to keep users interested for a long time.
Reddit Enhancement Suite
The Reddit Enhancement Suite browser add-on is all about giving users more options when using Reddit. It is possible to make changes to many aspects of the website for your own leisure. We were surprised at a number of customization options RES allowed us to make, and we found it truly satisfying. Trust us, the customization options here are vast, so we are only going to talk about the most important ones.
First off, you’ll need to download the add-on from the official RES website. Bear in mind that it only supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. No support for Internet Explorer or Edge here, so if you’re a fan of these browsers, you’re out luck.
Once the add-on is installed, you’ll notice a new settings icon at the top-right section on Reddit. It should have a red exclamation mark notifying you that this little thing right here is important. You’ll want to hover your mouse cursor over it and click on “RES settings console.” Navigate to the “Accounts” section to play around with all the options in this section.
Here you can do things such as hiding the user bar and showing comment karma.
In terms of what is inside the “Comment” tab, well, it gives users a lot of options to spice up the comment area on Reddit. Users can show the parent comment by hovering if they wish, save comments, along with the ability to show or hide the amount of new comments on one of your post since you have been away.
The ability is also there to use keyboard shortcuts in a variety of ways, something not available with vanilla Reddit.
What about changes to the user interface?
This section is called “UI”, and it is where users go to make small changes to the overall Reddit user interface. The only drastic changes that can be done is the ability to change how images load, along with a few style tweaks here and there. Users can also automatically have night mode activate and deactivate at certain hours of the day.
As we’ve stated before, the features here are vast, and as such, we wouldn’t be able to go through every one of them. However, from what we have seen, RES is by far something every Redditor should have in his or her toolbox.
You can get it from the official RES website.
