Apart from the official launch of Windows 8, October 26 was the date when a number of Microsoft-developed apps for the new platform were released in the final form. Among them was Lync Windows Store app. Most, who tried their hands-on the app realized the new Lync app has been designed specifically for Windows 8 and Windows RT / touchscreen Windows 8 PCs.
The app that provides chat, video conferencing and VOIP functionality for users now also integrates with other Microsoft software including Exchange and SharePoint. It provides a new subset of the features In an effort to convince businesses that Windows 8 is a practical solution for users.
Lync Windows Store App for Windows 8
Download Lync Windows Store App for Windows 8. Once installed, the app opens on your Windows Start screen. You can also find it listed under Apps. In the Windows 8 search box, type Lync.
The app signs in automatically if you’re logged on to your computer using your domain credentials. Alternatively, if you sign in for the first time on a Windows RT tablet, you may need to enter your sign-in address and password. When you sign in, you can also select your sign-in status.
After signing in, you can see the Home Screen from where you can access many features. Some of them have been highlighted below.
Adding audio or Video when you are in conversation
For adding a video or an audio, swipe from the top of your screen toward the bottom, or from the bottom of your screen toward the top and then tap the Call or Video icon. Ensure you have a webcam, computer speakers and microphone, or a headset connected to your computer.
Joining a Meeting
The Meeting tile of the app displays your upcoming Lync meetings. When a meeting is scheduled or coming up, simply tap the Meeting tile from the Home Screen to join the meeting. If you’re in the meeting and would like to access menu options such as mute, dial-pad, IM simply swipe from the top of your screen toward the bottom, or from the bottom of your screen toward the top.
Please note that the feature will be available to you only if it’s enabled in your organization. To listen to voice mail message you haven’t listened to yet, Tap the tile and tap the specific voice mail message you want to listen to. The voice mail tile displays the number of voice messages with a Play button, and information about the length of the message, and name of the caller.
Finding someone and sending Ims
To find a contact in your company and send an IM to him/her tap the ‘Contacts’ when on the Home screen and In the search box, type the name or phone number of the contact you’re looking for. If the person isn’t in your Contacts, swipe from the right side of the screen to the left, then tap the Search charm. When you find the contact you looking for, tap on their picture and then tap the IM icon. Then simply type your message and tap Enter to send the message.
