What does it mean when a printer says calibrating?
Printer calibration basically refers to the process of making adjustments to printer settings and paper profiles as well as aligning various components within a printer. If your printer shows a Calibrating message, it means that it is adjusting its settings to maintain high print quality.
How do you Calibrate your HP printer?
To calibrate your HP printer, you can use the below steps:
- First, from your printer’s control panel, press Setup.
- Now, go to System setup using the arrow button and tap on OK.
- Next, choose Print Quality and press OK.
- After that, highlight Calibrate color and press OK.
- Finally, select Calibrate now and press OK to start the calibration process.

You can begin with some standard troubleshooting tips and tricks to fix this error. First, restart your printer or power cycle it by turning off the printer, unplugging the power cords from the main power source, waiting for 60 seconds, and then reconnecting the printer.
Another thing you can do is make sure that you have installed pending firmware updates. To do that, tap on the HP ePrint icon on your printer, click on the Settings menu, and select the right option to install firmware updates. Printers with the text-based menu can be updated using the Setup > Settings > Service > Preferences > Printer Maintenance > Tools > Web Services > Printer Update > Update option.

This error might occur due to a failed cartridge alignment caused because of color, photo, or used paper loaded in the input tray during the process. So, in that case, it is recommended to put a white plain paper in the input tray while aligning the cartridge.
To do that, remove the used paper from the input tray and slide the paper width guide to the furthest edge. Now, put an unused plain white letter or A4-sized paper into the tray and move the paper width guide inward to rest it against the paper edge.
