We do not recommend having any online products tracking your location. Still, if you must, then we will explain how to set your location. In this post, we show you how to add your location in Google Maps on the desktop and mobile.
How to add Location in Google Maps
You see, setting your location makes it super easy to find places when using Google Maps. If you search for new restaurants on the regular, among other things, then getting this done is a must. Bear in mind, however, that your privacy will likely be at risk if you frequently share your location with Google servers. If that is fine by you, then continue to read to learn what it is you need to do. The process is simple:
- Visit the Google Maps page
- Click the Menu button
- Select Your Places
- Set a Home address
- Add location via mobile devices
Let us discuss this issue with more detail.
1] Visit the Google Maps page
OK, so to begin, you must first log into your Google account, then visit the official Google Maps website. If you have yet to settle on a favorite web browser to use, we suggest using Firefox. Then again, since Maps is a Google product, Chrome might work a little bit better.
2] Click the Menu button
At the top-left corner of Google Maps, you should see a horizontal Menu bar, also known as the hamburger button. Click on it right away.
3] Select Your Places
From the dropdown menu, you will want to click on the option named, Your Places. You should see it below Location Sharing, so waste no time and select it.
4] Set a home address
Under the Labeled tab, you should see a list of options. Home and Work are likely the only two there, so go on ahead and select Home. From there, add your home address, then complete the task by hitting the Save button.
Do the same for Work if you want to add the location of your Workplace as well.

5] Add location via mobile devices
When it comes down to adding your location to Google Maps on mobile devices such as iOS and Android, the task is simple.
Fire up the Maps app on the respective platform, then tap within the search box. A dropdown menu should appear right after. From that menu, you will see the Home button. Select it, then type the name of your current location.
You can even move the Home Pin on the map to your exact location or somewhere within the vicinity.
From the bottom of the menu, hit the blue Save button to complete the process.
Hope this helps.
