NEW: Free Auslogics Disk Defrag Touch for Windows 8

Users of the very popular Auslogics Disk Defrag for Windows, may be happy to know that the company has launched Auslogics Disk Defrag Touch specifically for touch-screen Windows PCs  – and that too free! This free software will help Windows users to keep their hard disks in the best of health. Although the built-in Disk Defragmenter in Windows 8 now runs as a low priority task in the background without affecting the performance of the computer, many users prefer to use a third-party free defragmentation software.

Download and install it and you will see a brand new interface optimized for touch. Tap, swipe or slide to run the freeware, which promises to give a performance boost to your Windows Store apps, favorite games as well as other programs like Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.

Auslogics Disk Defrag Touch will smartly place the system files on your hard disk, so that such files that are needed every day are written to the faster part of the hard disk drive for best performance of your operating system.

It includes a new intelligent algorithm that lets you select programs whose performance matters most to you. Using it, you can optimize them to ensure best speed. For instance, you can optimize Outlook, Windows Live Mail or any other mail program of yours to make writing, sending and sorting your mail faster.

The new Auslogics Achievements Program built into this software, will make defragmenting fun! There are rewards for good maintenance habits, by turning it into a fun game

The interface looks cool and runs like an app but on the desktop. There is no way to minimize it or resize it. When it runs, it blocks the whole desktop including the taskbar. To continue working on the desktop, while it ran, you could press Ctrl+Alt+Del, bring up the Task Manager and keep it running. That makes the taskbar visible. Or else, you could, from the settings, select Minimize to system tray when you close the program option.

The program lets you delete temporary files before starting defragmentation, skip large file fragments, schedule defrag runs and more. Check out the image gallery below and click on any image to see the larger version.

Auslogics Disk Defrag Touch is a worthy download, as it does the job – and fast! But mind you, the first time you go for a full defrag, it may take a couple of hours, depending on your data and hard disk size.

Download it free from its home page. And even if you do not have a touch-screen PC, don’t let this stop you. Disk Defrag Touch will still work fine with a mouse and keyboard.

Tried the link just now at last sentence of your story, got 404 error on a TWC page saying “Ooops!”.

On a huff-and-puff Windows 7 Home Prem 64 bit dual core of 4GB RAM laptop, I use Piriform’s Defraggler as Iobit’s auto-defrag option worked but would cause random BSOD due to its constant defrag competing with larger programs for even big pagefile space; would Auslogics defrag on manual be a little faster than Defraggler? Thanks!

Anand Khanse, it looks like the link to the program is not working. Please check it.
