If you prefer to use a Dock, I am sure that you find that your Windows taskbar gets in the way, esp so when you want the dock docked in the lower edge.

While you can always use Auto-hide to hide it, should you move your cursor down, the taskbar would appear again. Moreover it would also hide the start menu button

But using this portable application, you can now easily hide the taskbar in Windows.

Download and use Taskbar Eliminator. It is a nice utility which will simply and efficiently remove the taskbar from Windows 7 or Vista.

With just the click of a button, the taskbar is disabled from any side of the screen, providing the freedom to use any dock application, increase computer security, or allow all sorts of Windows customizations. The taskbar can be toggled on and off in real-time, providing the flexibility to quickly view the taskbar to perform an action.

The application interface is simple and easy to understand, allowing it to be used by even the most novice of users. Simply press and hold Cntrl+Alt+T to bring up the Preferences window, from which all options can be adjusted.
