How to disable Windows Firewall in Windows 10/8/7

In this post, we will see how you can turn on or turn off the Windows Firewall in Windows 10/8/7. Before you do this, it is important to know that you should not turn off or disable Windows Firewall unless you have another third-party firewall installed and enabled as it makes your computer and network more vulnerable to malware attacks. If you have one enabled, it will automatically disable itself. Nevertheless, if you have the need to disable it manually, then this post will show you how to do it.

Turn off or Disable Windows Firewall

disable Windows Firewall

From the WinX Menu, select Control Panel > Windows Firewall.

Now on the left side, you will see a Turn Windows Firewall On or Off link. click on it to open the Customize settings panel shown in the above image. Here you will see the settings to enable or disable Window Firewall on private as well as public networks.

You have two settings:

  • Turn on Windows Firewall
  • Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended)

Under the former, you will see two options:

  • Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed apps
  • Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app.

Select your preferences and click OK and exit.

While the default Firewall settings are good for most of us, if you need to fine-tune it to meet your requirements, you will have to configure your Windows firewall properly.

If your firewall is giving problems or if you messed up its settings, then this post will show you how to reset Windows Firewall settings to defaults. If that does not help, you may need to repair your Windows firewall.
