WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps out there. A lot of users rely on the app for day-to-day conversations, businesses, or keeping up with friends and family. But sometimes, WhatsApp may ban user accounts for no apparent reason or when it finds out that they have violated WhatsApp’s policies. This is done algorithmically.
Why has WhatsApp blocked or banned my number?
If you try to log in to WhatsApp and see a message like Your phone number is banned from using WhatsApp or This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp due to spam, then it simply means your number has been flagged by WhatsApp’s system. As a result, you can no longer send/receive messages, view your chats, or perform any other activities on the app.
Here are some reasons why this might have happened:
- You probably used modded apps like GBWhatsApp, YoWhatsApp, or other similar modified versions.
- You used third-party tools for bulk messaging, which violated WhatsApp’s spam policies.
- You may have violated content policies by sharing NSFW content, fake news, hate speech, or by joining groups with offensive or suspicious names.
- WhatsApp’s automated detection system might have flagged some words you used and banned your account for no apparent reason.
There are different types of bans. These are:
- Temporary ban: This occurs after a minor policy violation. In this case, you should see a countdown timer showing how long your account will remain blocked. Your account will be unblocked automatically after that time.
- Permanent ban: This is a more serious ban, making your account fully disabled without a recovery time. In this case, you will need to appeal to WhatsApp for further resolution.
WhatsApp blocked my number: How to unblock it?
If your account has been temporarily banned, you need to wait for the cooldown period. After that, you should be able to re-sign up on the app with your phone number.
In case it is a permanent ban, there is no direct way to get your account unbanned. But there are a few things you can try:
- Re-register your number
- Apply for a review
- Send an Email to WhatsApp Support
1] Re-register your number
- Start by uninstalling the WhatsApp app and ensuring that you are not using a modded version.
- Download the latest version of WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store.
- Sign up with your phone number and see if it works.
- If your account is still banned, you need to wait 30 days before trying again.
2] Apply for a review
- After downloading the WhatsApp app again, try to log in.
- While registering on the app, look for a Support option
- Click on Request a review
- Enter the 6-digit verification code.
- Finally, fill out the application explaining your issue.
3] Send an Email to WhatsApp Support
- Go to the WhatsApp Contact page here.
- Fill out the online form with all your details and explain your issue in detail.
- After that, you will need to wait to hear back from WhatsApp.
You can also send an email to [email protected] and explain your problem.
The process of getting your WhatsApp account may take a day or even a week. If it gets unblocked, good for you. If it doesn’t, you may have to consider using another phone number to activate a new version of WhatsApp, or a WhatsApp alternative app.

Can I recover my chat history if my WhatsApp number is permanently banned?
If your account is permanently banned, you won’t be able to access the app directly to view your chats. However, if you had enabled chat backups (to Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iPhone), you can recover your chat history by registering a new number and restoring the backup during setup. Keep in mind that this only works if you created a backup before the ban occurred.

Will changing my phone number or device help lift the ban?
Changing your phone number or device will not lift a ban on your original number. WhatsApp bans are tied specifically to your phone number, not your device or SIM card. If you want to use WhatsApp again, you’ll need to either appeal the ban or use a different phone number to create a new account.
