OneNote Class Notebooks: Enrich learning experience of Students

In today’s digital age, students are not just the receivers of the information but actively involved in the learning process. The new OneNote templates will help enrich this learning experience further. OneNote has already established itself as a great tool for learning. Educators who wish to use this tool as a teaching plus, learning resource will surely find something interesting in its latest addition – Assessment for Learning (AFL) techniques.

It is important for students to identify where they stand in terms of their own learning. And this new addition to OneNote – Assessment for Learning (AFL) technique can surely help them in this direction. AFL allows teachers to be informed about their students’ learning, subject knowledge and understanding taste. It allows teachers to develop OneNote chapters in specific subject areas via use shared resources, like PowerPoints, PDFs, Word documents and pictures, as their core content and augment them with links to YouTube videos, websites, home assignments and extension exercises, if required.

The templates are embedded throughout each chapter. For instance, at the beginning of every chapter, there can be an outline of the learning objectives. Examples of these are shown in blue below.

In addition to the learning objectives (shown in blue) students can identify which  tasks such as classroom activities or homework a teacher has been assigned to them (shown in pink below).

Teachers can also embed keywords in designated pages at the end of every chapter that would allow students to access them for the duration of their learning in later months or when they require them to revise for exams.

Finally, on the last page of every chapter, checklists can be added. Here, the teachers can use emoticons to self-assess whether or not they have covered the chapter well or understand what students need to know further for a better understanding of the topic of discussion.

Below each checklist students can find number lines that would allow them to identify where they’re at in their own learning.
