Protector Plus Windows Vulnerability Scanner recommends security patches

The Internet is the most comprehensive source to find free-to-use scanning applications for your OS. Tons of programs claim to find vulnerabilities in your system in seconds and remove them in a click. Some like the Secunia Personal Software Inspector do a great job. There is another tool called the Protector Plus Windows Vulnerability Scanner. that scans your Windows PC and recommends security patches, if any are needed.

Protector Plus – Windows Vulnerability Scanner is a freeware that checks your system for Vulnerabilities and guides you to the right patch to keep your system safe. The program is regularly updated every month by the developers, to find all the vulnerabilities discovered. It will scan for all the vulnerabilities including the ones discovered earlier and provide you the patch locations to update your system.

The website mentions, that program is compatible only with the versions of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home & Professional) Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, Service Pack 3, Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4, Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4, Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 4 and Windows 2003 Servers. Still, for testing purposes I downloaded the program on my Windows 8 and it worked just fine – although it detected by OS as being Windows Vista instead of Windows 8!

Upon installation, Windows Vulnerability Scanner displayed a straightforward interface that guides users throughout the entire process. The UI may look garish but it displays information pertaining to the system, such as the running operating system, processor, total physical memory, page file space, user name and some other details.

I d/l’d and ran this program tonight. Strange how the vulnerability reported is the exact same one shown in your screenshot. No advice on how to correct the vulnerability is given other than to d/l the upgrade to their software. Smacks of “ransomware” to me. I immediately removed this from my system and put it out of my mind.

If you have automatic updates turned on and to at the very least notify you that they need to be installed YOU WILL get the updates you need from Microsoft. There is no need for grabage like this. People that make this crap just play on the fears of those that do not know any better.
