Windows Live and Hotmail to get a brand new Metro look

Looks like Hotmail is all set to get a major revamp. Microsoft appears to be planning to not only rebrand Windows Live ID to Microsoft Account, but also give Hotmail a clean new minimalistic Metro UI.

LiveSide was able to obtain some screenshots of the new Hotmail. You will be able to see from the screenshots that a thin blue header will be visible in Hotmail – and across all other services like SkyDrive, etc. When the service in the new avatar will be launched is not known yet, however.

The name Newmail may lead some to believe that Microsoft is planning to rebrand Hotmail as Newmail, but that is not the case. Newmail appears to only be a place-holder.

The New Hotmail is expected to be, in the beginning, offered on an opt-in basis on;y so that users can take their time getting used to the new UI. It will offer a modern interface: faster and cleaner.

You can also get a Newmail email address for your new inbox. You can get a new email address from Newmail. You don’t have to worry about your contacts and previous emails, you’ll keep them. And, you’ll continue receiving messages sent to your current email address.

Services that shared your own updates to other Messenger friends no longer appear now. But you will see services like Facebook, Flickr, Google, LinkedIn, Sina Weibo and Twitter.

Currently, Hotmail is the largest email service provider with over 350 million accounts and Microsoft is betting that the new Metro look will make the service even more popular.

How do you like the new look? Personally, I love it!
