You would get 2 free Windows 10 upgrades. One for Windows 7 and the other for Windows 8.1. To get the free Windows 10's, you would have to upgrade. Both these would be tied to this machine. You would not be able to transfer them to another machine. Is this what you were looking for?

I've asked this question of 2 or 3 forums, without any feedback, so I'm asking the question one more time. My final solution may be MSFT, directly. I have a dual boot desktop with (64 bit) Win 7 Pro and 8.1 Pro running on a partitioned SSD. I'm surmising that I should be able to get an "extra" copy of Win 10, downloaded to removable media (DVD as an example) and run the other copy of Win 10 on the non-partitioned SSD as the end result. The DVD would be used for backup, if needed.

All feedback is welcomed!!

Thanks, Downsized

I bought 7 Ultimate cause it was the best way to go. I have installed windows versions from 3.1 to 8.1 somewhere around 40,000 to 45,000 times lost track in business and personal installs ! My biggest concern is how the EULA lays out. 1) DO I have an unlimited amount of reinstalls with 10 ( and a new Prod Key ) as I did in 7 Ult ? 2) What happens to my old product key from my Win 7 Ult ?? 3) When are they planning on killing 7 , folks will hold onto 7 LONGER than XP ( btw - most businesses have recently upgraded to 7) ??? I considered many of their versions as "skip OS's" useless versions like 98 1st - ME - Vista - 8.0 they simply paid the Bills for Microsoft ( although the public bought it hook line and sinker ) I will be Furious if they are pulling another scam on us. So far I don't see any reason for me to want to upgrade my OS and many reasons for MS to have ME do so ! So far I see this as a one sided deal, MS lining their pockets by making up reasons for me to NEED the new OS when I really don't. Maybe a comparison list of how 10 is better than 7 ( 8 n 8.1 were skip OS's - so they don't count - unless you are addicted to touch screen, why they want me to put finger oils smeared all over my glossy screen is beyond me defeats the purpose of a $2000 vid card !) 4) Can I go back to 7 within a year after upgrade or am I locked in ????

In reply to <a href="https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-upgrade-path-process#comment-41726">Dennis Thompson</a>.

when you have windows 8.1 then you have to go to the store in the metro desktop and there will be an update available called "windows 8.1 update". you download that / install it.. when it finishes you now have "windows 8.1 update" ( S14 ) installed. And after this your updates come thru windows update like they did before.. You have windows 8.1 update if metro apps have a red cross in the top right corner that drops down when you move your mouse to the top of the screen
