If Windows detects that Drivers are not yet ready for your system, it waits. But sure, you can use the tool to upgrade right away to. :)

I don’t think the media creation tool is that hard to use. It is however hard to locate for those of us who want to get on board with Windows 10. I feel it is better to be somewhat more proactive than sitting back and waiting for things to happen.

Let Microsoft validate and take its time as its working with its partners to provide the best upgrade experience. This is also my experience. Just to experience how the upgrade via GWX will be, I did not force upgrade but waited. And observed that Microsoft was working in the background (you must be connected to net ) and readying the system for Windows 10 upgrade. Then it’ll notify when its ready. Then let it upgrade after getting your consent. It was a smooth upgrade w/o any issues.
