I prefer a GUI too, I only need the non-GUI editor for when I'm accessing the machine remotely via ssh. I have remote desktop access, but there are times when that either doesn't work or isn't appropriate. I found out that vim was ported to Windows recently, so I just installed that. I usually use pico or nano in Linux, so there's a learning curve I'll have to struggle through, but vim seems to work... sort of.

I don't believe I've ever considered using an editor without a graphical interface available to appease the visual need of my simple brain function, it could cause my head to explode. Just thinking of the term "text editor" without a GUI seems tortuous.

I was replying to the post by Vaibhav that noted you can launch notepad from the command line. I recently set up a dual boot system on my Alienware machine with both 64-bit Linux Mint and Windows 7 Ultimate. I managed to get OpenSSH working on both operating systems, but I don't have a way to edit documents from the command line when Windows is running.
