Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Start Screen is designed in order to provide real-time updates to users via its Tiles. The app tiles play animations when set to do so, and provide you notifications via text, images or combination of both. In order to avoid unnecessary data usage with the integration of these tile updates, Microsoft has put a limit beyond which the live tiles won’t update. Thus after this limit, you can have new content when you open the app, but the corresponding app tile will not provide you any new updates.
Start Screen Live Tiles won’t update beyond Specified Limit
By default the limit after which live tiles won’t provide real-time updates is 50 MB. This limit is justified as far as the Metered Connections are concerned. But if you’re addicted to live tiles updates, you have set a WiFi network as a metered connection and if you’ve paid for an unlimited data plan, you may want to bypass this limit. Here, in this article, we’ll share you how to set this limit to the data usage amount you want.
Set data usage limit for Live Tiles
1. Go to Start Screen and press Windows Key + I to open Settings charm. Click Tiles.
2. In the Tiles section, from the Data used for tile updates drop down, you can select your own limit after which the live tiles should not update. If you’re on an unlimited data plan, Unlimited option here is for you.
Restart the machine in to avail the changes. After reboot, live tiles would continue to get updates according to the limit you imposed.
Go here if your Windows 8 tiles are not working.
