Google Chrome’s support for add-ons has exploded in last few years, with a library of apps and extensions, that makes it one of the most popular web browser. Google Chrome extensions are add-ons that extend and improve browsing experience and functionality of Chrome browser, and are so well-integrated in the browser they look like part of the browser. In some cases it might be a new drop-down menu or an extension that changes how you use a website.
Break It Chrome extension
One of the extension which we came across last week is Break It (Brk.im) Chrome extension. The Chrome extension provides an easy way for a user to capture and share any webpage from their current browsing session. The extension captures all the tabs open in current browsing session and make them available for shortening i.e. breaking. You can break any webpage (or URL) from any of the tab for easy share on any social networking site or bookmarking. Once you click on any of the URL to break it will use Brk.im’s URL Shortening engine to provide a short URL with options to share on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus etc.
The Chrome extension description says,
Four Clicks to share a short URL of any page you are browsing, to a social network of your choice (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus). No keyboard required at all. Something as a Lazy/Pro User you will love.
The extension can be downloaded from the Chrome Store. To install it, click on the Free button on the chrome extension page and follow onscreen instructions. Once installed it will be available in the top right corner of the browser. To use it, click on the extension icon, which will open a pop-up withlist of URLs of all webpages you have open in your current browsing session. Click on Break It to shorten the URL, which will open up brk.im’s landing page from where you can share the URL.
Brk.im extension works across operating systems, so you can try it on any desktop platform running Google Chrome Browser. This extension is entirely free, so there’s no harm in giving it a try. You can manage the extension by heading to chrome://extensions where you can manage any or all of Chrome extensions for your browser. You can also typically right-click an extension’s icon in the toolbar to manage it.
Chrome extensions are very handy to extend his browser’s functionality. And this extension to share a short URL easily between friends and followers is sure to finduse as it serves a dual purpose – to shorten a long URL to share easily on micro blogging sites where a character limit is imposed on user input, and secondly, to share any page with your friends/followers easily with minimal effort.
This chrome extension has been developed by former TWC Author, Vasu Jain, who is currently working in San Francisco bay area as a Software Engineer.
