A new online Microsoft Certification program called the Microsoft Professional Degree Program has been announced.
Microsoft Professional Degree Program (MPD)
The program offers university-caliber curriculum for professionals and the first certification will be in the Data Science course. The MPD program has been designed and developed after detailed consultation with data scientists and provides professionals with requisite technical and functional skills of data science with the help of highly rated online courses and hands-on labs. The curriculum is delivered by experts in data science theory and practice. A series of online courses is available on edX.org and students can earn the Microsoft Professional Degree by earning a passing grade in these courses. This resume-worthy digitally shareable degree could fetch you a wonderful job in data science.
Is Microsoft Degree Program Free?
The entire courseware will be available on edX.org and aspirants need to purchase a verified certificate there. You can audit the courses for free but to receive a degree, you need to purchase a verified certificate for each course. Each course comes with a different fee structure.
The Verified Certificate for the orientation course is $25, “Statistical Thinking for Data Science and Analytics” is US $99. The Verified Certificates for other 8 courses are US $49 each. Unit 4 – Capstone Project – Cortana Intelligence Competition
The time required for each course is different and varies from student to student, however, the students need to allocate at least 5-6 weeks per course with 4-6 hours per week. Please note that each Microsoft course will be available online typically for a six-week run and will be taken down for a week. Students thus have to complete and pass all assessments and gradable assignments within six weeks. You can watch the course videos on your mobile using the Android or iOS apps but the hands-on experience requires a Windows PC.
In case a student fails to pass the course in six weeks run, they have to take the entire course again.
How to enroll in Microsoft Professional Degree Program?
While the registrations to the program are closed currently, aspirants can still take the courses on edX and the credit will be applied once you register on the Microsoft Professional Degree website. Submit your email address so as to get a notification when the registrations are open.
The courses are available online exclusively and students need to sign up first to audit the courses. You need to attain the verified certificates from edX.org to get credit for the courses you complete in MPD. You will receive a Microsoft Professional Degree only when you earn the verified certificate for each course of data science.
Along with the detailed online courses, Microsoft Professional Degree program courses include discussion groups actively monitored by the trained Teaching Assistants of Microsoft.
