I still had a double login even though I had this setting switched on.

Solution 2 (netplwiz – off and on again) worked fine.
I preferred this solution as it ultimately kept the original settings.
Note that I had 3 user accounts – 2 with my name and one for my homegroup. Maybe this has something to do with it.
And indeed, I also was afraid it was a keyboard-logger virus!

Thanks, Sudip. I was afraid I had introduced a keyboard recording hack on my machine. The netplwiz solution was elegant.
