I would also add that you should (or can) install fonts as a shortcut, not only to save space, but it prevents apps from slowing down due to a massive font cache.

Put all new fonts into a new folder or on another drive. Go to Font Settings and check the option “Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced).”

When installing a new font now, you’ll have the option to install it as a shortcut when you right click it (or a check box to install shortcut on the font window). Just remember not to delete or remove the original font or the shortcut won’t work.
