Trick your Zune software and Windows Phone to install the Mango Update right away

Getting tired of waiting for the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update to show up on my HTC Windows Phone in India, I decided to force my Windows Phone to update.

This idea is very simple to follow. Here is how you can trick your Zune software and Windows Phone to update to Mango.

1. Connect your Windows Phone to your Windows PC and let Zune software launch. Make sure that your PC is connected to the Internet.

2. Click on Phone > Settings > Update and see if you are being offered the update on its own. If so great, just go ahead and update your phone.

3. If not, click on any other option in the menu,  above or below the Update option. Now click again on the Update option – and within 2 seconds of having clicked on it, disconnect your PC from the Internet. You can do so by, yanking the Ethernet/Internet connection cable, disabling WiFi, or by disabling the network device via Control Panel.

4. Wait for half a minute or so and you will now see an update being offered. This could be 7392, a pre-update for your particular phone. Now connect your PC to the Internet, and proceed with the update process as required.

5. That is all I had to do. After this, my phone rebooted, the process continued, I was offered the final Mango update 7720, and my update process went on smoothly to its conclusion.

You can click on Update option again, later on to check the version of your Windows Phone operating system. You should see 7720.

You can also go to your Windows Phone > Settings > Scroll down to About, and see the Software version as Windows Phone 7.5.

I am still in the process of relishing my Mango, but I can assure that the phone is much more responsive and has a lot of new features stuffed into it!

To-date, I was using WP7 Marketplace Enabler to download/buy apps and games from there, but now I find that I am even able to access the MarketPlace from my Windows Phone and download apps and games directly!
