I remember when I was at Microsoft supporting MSN and Windows 95/98 and Office. We had to extract cab files (usually from floppy disks or CDs, and if you remember back then, DOS didn’t have MSCDEX drivers until later and they also needed installing) all the time. And this was before remote desktop and access tools and was done over the phone. It was a nightmare. I’m now so glad that most archive programs like WinRAR, WinZip and the pretty cool PeaZip can extract and create cabinet files.

But, sometimes we do need the command line to extract files, so the nightmare still persists.
