You don't have to turn of the cache, but the cache flushing, which forces to write to the disk after every operation is finished, and wait until is done.

AnandK, you are a GOD amongst men. I have a brand new DELL laptop with Windows 8.1. It used to take me 10 minutes to scroll top to bottom on eBay, now its fast. Like a REAL computer. And thank you for not just trying to discourage me from disabling this bad, memory consuming leviathan.

I am running Windows 7 on a Lenovo X200 laptop/tablet with an Intel 25-M solid state drive. Unfortunately, Intel's SSD toolbox shows that every time my computer sleeps, hybernates, or shuts down it fails to safely shut down the SSD. I have spent about two days trying to fix it, and failed. I also failed in at attempt to simply force the power manager to leave the SSD power on always.

Is turning off the write-caching on the SSD device sufficient to protect me from eventual drive corruption? Any thoughts on what I might do?

Both Lenovo and Intel tech support are worst than useless.

I noticed that there are some samsung drives with ultracapacitors, maybe I'll have to toss the intel drive and buy one of those.
