Download Portable Fix It Troubleshooters Suite from Microsoft

Fix It from Microsoft are a great way of fixing your Windows problems quickly in a click. These automated troubleshooters scan your system and then present you with a report displaying possible problems and offer to fix the problems for you. We, at The Windows Club have always been great fans of the Fix It team.

The Fix It team offers them all! From a Fix It for the lazy that tells you whether you are running 32-Bit or 64-Bit Windows to a Fix It for Troubleshooting Search & Indexing Errors, which incidentally was the FIRST MVP Fix It, based on my tutorial – these Fix Its are so easy to use, that even a 5 year old girl can use them to fix Windows issues!

Whether it was the launch of Fix It project, launch of Automated Troubleshooting Services, the launch of Fix it Center Online, or the launch of Fix it Center Pro, we have been the first or among the first to break news about these ATS.

Portable Fix It Troubleshooters Suite

Typically to run these Automated Troubleshooting Solutions, you have to visit the particular page and click on the Run Now button.

But if you want to download them, to run on a different or a disconnected computer, you may download the Portable Fix It Troubleshooters Suite.

Clicking on the download link, given at the end of this post, will download a 229 KB MicrosoftFixit-portable.exe file. Run it and Accept the conditions. You will now be required to enter the path of the folder where you want to download the approximately 40 MB file. Once done, click Save and wait for the download to complete.

Get an error trying to download the tool. Can anyone suggest a fix it tool to fix fix it tool?

  6. PatSG

Error encountered when trying to download the entire ‘Portable Microsoft Fix It’ package using the stub-downloader. The download process never goes beyond the start, so nothing is downloaded in the end: http://i.imgur.com/QzZ8SBE.png

Failed to create the portable diagnostic tool
Errors were found in one or more of the necessary components and the diagnostic tool cannot continue.

Based on numerous online queries (all unresolved), as well as 1 other user (gpmarkb) here at TWC comments, the above seems to be a common issue.

    1) Perhaps TWC can suggest what is causing the problem & propose how Mr Fix It itself can be fixed.

Is the Fix It package download dependent on some kind of Windows Service(s) being enabled & started ? I have no problems downloading other files via stub downloaders/ installers. Neither do I have any problems downloading Windows Updates.

    2) A value-add service that TWC can consider providing for those facing similar download difficulties is to make available the **latest** entire MS Fix It package in a compressed RAR/ ZIP/ 7Z file (with the original folder-structure intact).

** It appears that the package version & the number of Fix It components varies on a periodic basis.

@anonim — Thanks for your helpful upload of the ‘Portable Microsoft Fix It’ package (v 4.0.0.14), but running Launch Fix It.exe gives an error because:-

    1) Your RAR file does not retain the original folder structure of the package. This results in the following error: http://i.imgur.com/QzZ8SBE.png

Fix it troubleshooting cannot continue because an error occurred.
We’re sorry, but the program encountered a runtime error. Please try again later. [Code 80040411]

    2) The Launch Fix It.exe file might also be corrupt because its filename contains some gibberish characters.

I managed to download the entire package (v 4.3) from another source, & was able to run the package’s contents w/o any problems. For reference, here’s a screenshot of the folder-structure: http://i.imgur.com/uAfUDDH.png

  8. Hi PatSG, After reading your comment, I decided to check this out. I was able to download the complete 40 MB Portable Fix It package to my desktop. But I am not sure if I can legally host it on my server.

  9. PatSG

@Anand Khanse — Thanks for verifying the MS Fix It components download on your side. Is the latest Launch Fix it.exe file still v 4.3.0.0 ?

Right now, users like myself are resorting to downloading the Fix It components package from unknown 3rd parties trying to help out. Of course, this poses a risk because of the possibility that some uploaders might unscrupulously contaminate the package with malware/ spyware.

Due to feedback over the years, surely Microsoft is aware that many users simply aren’t able to download the components using the stub downloader. Hopefully, Microsoft will one day separately provide the pre-generated package of Fix It components for download, &/or allow reputable websites like TWC to officially host a periodically-updated package.

Otherwise, this is rather like a reflection of the ongoing Win 7 ISO download debacle, where the official Microsoft website keeps giving legit users the ISO file with the wrong language, even as Microsoft has simultaneously shut down the legal downloads (Win 7, Win 7 SP1, Win 7 SP1-U refresh) hosted at the DigitalRiver mirror.

Even more ironically, Microsoft Comms/ engineers/ MVPs at the Helpdesk Hotline & Microsoft Community (answers.microsoft.com) are responding to complaints by directing users to download the ISO files from a certain pirate site !

    Moral of the Day:
If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. But if something is known to be continously broken for some users, please fix it, or at least provide a workaround. We would be very thankful.

  10. The File Version is 4.6.0.0.

  11. PatSG

Since Microsoft Fix It’s stub downloader keeps hanging at the 1st file (MatsOfflineSetup. cab), I was checking out possible causes that might have led to the failure to download the Fix It components.

However, my system met all the requirements. Neither are the connecting URLs blocked. Running SFC / Scannow also gives no error messages.

The only possible issue that I can think of is that Microsoft’s MATS/ Fix It servers might be blocking or breaking dynamic IPs &/or remote ports, which are what my ISP assigns to me via its transparent proxy due to national law.

Below is for reference, in case the info is of help to other users.

    * Minimum prerequisites to run Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services (MATS) & Support Diagnostic Platform (SDP):
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598970#q6
WIn XP SP3 & higher, Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0, .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5, Windows PowerShell 1.0 or 2.0
=> YES: All of the above are met in Win 7/8.

    * List of Microsoft URLs that must be allowed:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598970#q13
=> YES: All the relevant URLs are accessible in my case. Also double-confirmed with the standalone MS Fix It tool DIAG_MATS_NETWORK_global.DiagCab (159 KB):
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598970#t2

Can’t download offline package. MicrosoftFixit-portable says download error.

  13. Reckboy

Anyone get anywhere with this? Getting frustrated. I have a software that I can not unistall properly and the vendor is recommending this tool. it just does’t work for the offline component. when trying to set it up, I get “This diagnostic tool cannot continue because of an error. Please try again later.”. as if time is the fix… been trying for two days now. no luck.

  14. Snaz27

I’m in the same boat with AutoDesk AutoCAD 2015.
Wondering if there’s a solution for this soon.

“even a five year old girl”? must be a republinut managed web site, kind of explains the nonsense here

  16. You should read the post completely! The reference to “even a five year old girl” refers to an advert released by Microsoft showing how a 5 year old operated the Fix Its. Follow the post, the text links to! Sheesh!!! https://www.thewindowsclub.com/im-a-pc-and-i-use-fix-it-and-im-4-and-34

  17. JoeBeach

Nov 10, 2015. The file will no longer download. I beleive Microsoft is deliberately blocking all efforts to download the suite or tool.

  18. JoeBeach

Downloaded and installed the Microsoft Fixit Center, While configuring it, the tool looks for info about your PC and then tried to download components. At this point it says “Unable to download troubleshooters, please check your internet connection.” my internet connection is working fine so this means to me that Microsoft is blocking these components form downloading or they no longer exist.

  19. asjjasj

This acticle should be erased. Out-of date. This tool is not serverd anymore by MS … can’t complete the install (poping error when trying to reach MS servers) ..

  20. Thanks. Added and update.

  21. Adrian P

Thanks for sharing that other source!

Why are Democrats such assholes, and always coming up with such “clever” (yeah, right, more like stupid) names to call everyone else? You are supposed to be so caring about everyone and PC about the things you say, yet you are always so offensive. I just don’t understand why politics has to permeate everything you do anyway. Can’t you just be nice once in a while? I’d say your attitude reflects badly on your parents. You must have had Democratic parents too, because it’s obvious that your mother was afraid to wash your mouth out with soap. Bring it here … I’ll do it.

Say m. Edmund howse … How’s about a nice Hawaiian Punch?
