Ever sent an email by mistake? Ever wished you could delete the mail you’ve already sent? Want to send an email which you don’t want the receiver to save as proof? If yes, then Dmail is the right extension for you. While we have already talked about several important and useful Google extensions, Dmail is indeed worth including in the list.
Dmail, a.k.a Self-Destructing Email, is a Google Chrome extension which gives you an option on destructing your sent mails by adding a Delete Mail button.
Create self-destructing email with Dmail
It is a tiny lightweight Chrome extension from Delicious.com which you can install on your Windows PC from the Google Web Store and it adds a handful of features to your Gmail. It lands as a small icon on your extension on your browser and is ready to use right away.
Compose an email and you can see a Dmail button at the bottom with a scheduler where you can set the time you want to destroy your mail after.
Just click on the scheduler and set the time frame and your email will automatically destroy at set time.
There is also an All Dmails button in the top right corner of your web browser where you can see all your Google mails you have set with the Dmail feature.
While sending an email through Gmail, you can now set a specific timer within a week when your mail will self-destruct. Even if you haven’t set the timer beforehand, you can still use the feature to make it inaccessible to the recipient.
While the official page of Delicious says that the recipient need not necessarily have the extension installed to view the Dmail, I found it to be a false claim. I tested the feature and sent a Dmail to my other account with an auto-destruction timer of one hour and look what it was received like.
The mail clearly states this is a secured message and the recipient has to install the extension to access it. Another hitch which I found is that if you have this extension enabled in your browser, all your mails will go with Dmail settings which might be annoying for the recipients.
Overall, this is a nice and cool extension which gives us an interesting feature to destroy our emails even after sending them.
