CAM is a free PC monitoring tool
CAM is a free Windows software that you can use for FPS monitoring and PC monitoring in general. The tool is different from its earlier iterations in a way that the interface has been redesigned to streamline the user experience. Also, few tweaks have been made to the backend so that most users consume significantly less amount of CPU, just 1% and 120MB of RAM!
The main dashboard boasts a new, clean Basic view that shows you all the most important stats upfront with a clean and easy to read layout. You can find Build, Games and Devices tab alongside the Dashboard.
While being in the ‘Basic View’, you can switch to the guest mode to avoid signing up, but by doing so, you will be prohibited from access the historical data stored in CAM cloud. If you do not mind, proceed further!
Initially, you will be greeted with a screen displaying your Desktop specs as seen in the screenshot below.
Press ‘Let’s dive in’ to switch to Dashboard of the program. Here, you can access all options to help you monitor your PC’s vitals quickly and easily. For instance, you can see your Desktop’s FPS stats for the last game session. All you need to do is enable CAM FPS overlay. Then, choose your presets like FPS, Resolution, Memory, etc.
Likewise, you can choose the desired size of the ‘Fonts’. There are four font sizes offered by default,
A good feature about this program is you can scale font with resolution. What does this mean? Even if you change the resolution, the font size remains the same. i.e., it does not change even when the resolution of the screen is altered.
Switching to ‘Advanced’ Tab (just adjacent to ‘Basic view’) lets you check vital statistics of your PC in a glimpse. You can check usage for the following,
- Storage Drive
The ‘Games’ Tab lets a user save his game performance to the cloud. This is useful since it allows the user to view and compare performances across their most and recently played games. CAM can capture and save game performance data to the cloud to provide you insight into performance across your most played games. To enable all this CAM requires being synced to an online account. Therefore, you need to login first.
To get the optimal overlay experience, you can install DirectX End-User Runtime
The latest version adds new features. An example – there’s ‘Detect Devices’ button added under ‘Devices Pages’ section for users having trouble not being able to use their CAM powered devices. To use this feature,
Go to Devices Tab then click on Detect Devices, wait for loading bar to finish. The results will be displayed, instantly.
In all, CAM by NZXT is a useful tool which shows far more detail than can be covered here. Download Cam from its homepage.
