Earlier, OneDrive/SkyDrive was available as an app but now with Windows 8.1 update available, the app has become an integral part of Windows. You can now easily view and browse the files you’ve saved to OneDrive.com. Moreover, you can make those files available offline especially, if you wanted to access to OneDrive files without internet connection. You just need to enable OneDrive files available offline option.
Access OneDrive Files Offline in Windows 8.1
There are 2 ways to go about,
You can:
- Enable offline mode for few files/folders of your choice or
- Enable offline access mode for all the files and folders.
We will see both ways.
Enable offline mode for few files/folders
Open OneDrive from the Start screen. To do so, choose ‘Change PC Settings’ option. Then, under PC Settings section, select ‘OneDrive’. There, you can find ‘Files’ option. Click it and select ‘See my Files on OneDrive’.
Then, right-click a folder or file and hit the ‘Make Offline’ option to enable offline access for SkyDrive files. Once the offline access is enabled, your OneDrive app will download the files on your system.
Enable offline access mode for all the files and folders
Click ‘OneDrive’ tile on the Start page. Once there, access the Charms bar by pressing Win+C in combination or moving the mouse cursor to the lower-left corner of your computer screen and select ‘Settings’.
Next, under ‘Settings’ section choose ‘Options’.
You will see Access all files offline. Gently, slide the bar to the opposite end to enable this feature.
This will let you access all your OneDrive files offline even when you do not have an Internet connection.
