A Windows Phone 7, without access to the Marketplace is like, just any other phone!

Windows Phone 7 was made available officially by OEMs in stores in India on 28th Dec 2010. It will soon be a month now, and yet we do not have access to Windows Phone Marketplace, Zune Marketplace or the XBox Live experience.

While I am using Zune software v 4.7.1404.0 and WP7 Marketplace Enabler to download and purchase WP7 apps and games, it is quite frustrating to see that I along with all others are unable to access the Marketplace via the Windows Phone itself… nor get the XBox Live experience!

This therefore has left those who have purchased WP7 a frustrated lot!

Having a Windows Phone 7 without  apps or games is like having a brick in your hand! A Windows Phone 7 without access to its ecosystem is like any other phone! Only when you can enhance its functionality with apps, games, etc can you really enjoy the wonder that is Windows Phone 7!

While I have been contemplating writing about this for the last few days, I came across this Windows Phone 7 Feature Availability Matrix today.

It appears that there are also a series of countries where Windows Phone 7 is apparently available in stores  but where they apparently do not have access to any services, not even the ability to buy third party apps, which is very disturbing. US is the only country where all the features are available!

I have been given to understand that Microsoft is facing certain certain Government regulation issues vis-a-vis the payment gateway, but it is in the interest of Microsoft to get this issue sorted out real fast! Probably this is the reason why Microsoft has NOT ‘officially’ launched Windows Phone 7 in India and is maintaining a studied silence on this new operating system.

One really hopes that Microsoft will expedite things and give the WP7 users from India access to the Windows Phone Marketplace and the ecosystem real soon!
