Windows Phone AVG antivirus security app gets the boot

Microsoft has removed an antivirus app for Windows Phone which was released on Windows Phone marketplace just a few days back by AVG.

Microsoft has taken this decision on report by Justin Angel that the AVG antivirus app was actually spyware and used Geo Location to track users from app startup! Rafael Rivera too had criticised the app and said that it just scanned for EICAR strings and diplayed AVG ads.

Brandon Watson, Microsoft’s director of developer experience for Windows Phone has tweeted that Microsoft will investigate this app on its own.

AVG app pulled from marketplace. Doing some investigations, but want functionality certainty.

Many indeed found it very strange that while there were no malware for Windows Phone, AVG had gone ahead and decided to release an app for Windows Phone.
