Wikipedia to open first office outside the US, in India

The Wikimedia Foundation plans to open its first office outside the United States, in India. No location had been chosen yet, but the office would open within several months.

The operation would initially consist of two to four people and serve the local community.

“For Wikimedia, going multilingual and sharing content for all the languages is the way forward,” Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales said.

Barry Newstead, the chief global development officer, said there was “a general commitment to free knowledge in India”.

“We hope to support Indians to realize the vision of a world in which every single person can freely share in the sum of all knowledge,” he said in e-mailed comments.

I like Wikipedia but if they open office in India, then its waste, according to the donations given by Indians/India. Only 50 people donate in a year(and its very less amount). So if they open its branch, then they’re wasting money and their shares!
The only reason for opening in India is : The owner(Jimmy Wales) like India and he comes mostly here!
