Video Blocker for Chrome, Firefox lets you block unwanted Video Channels

YouTube is an ideal channel for watching your favorite videos or learning some important class lessons. Although good, one feature of the portal that acts as a major irritant is its recommendation feature. If you are looking for an option to disable this feature permanently and hide annoying videos on YouTube from any channel you want, add Video Blocker extension to Chrome or Firefox browser.

Video Blocker browser extension

Video Blocker is a simple browser extension that allows you to hide videos from channels that you don’t like. You can specify these channels by right-clicking on a link to a video on YouTube or by adding them manually via the options page. Moreover, you can hide videos from multiple channels at once, by using a wildcard or adding regular expressions.

The ingenious extension enables a user to even block videos with certain keywords. Every item added to the blocklist can also be protected with a password so that no one has access to it.

Since I use Chrome, I will talk about how to install and use it on Chrome browser.  Here’s how to start.

After installing Video Blocker, go to the YouTube site. Once there, find the extension on your browser’s address bar. It should be visible adjacent to the bookmarks bar.

Click on the icon. In the popup box that now appears on your computer screen, click the plus (+) icon to add a channel that you wish to block.

Once done, type the name of the YouTube channel that you want to block permanently.

Block YouTube Video Channels

How to do this? Simple, visit the channel’s official YouTube page, highlight the address and copy to youtube.com/user/. Click the check icon to block it.

What I find not so useful about the app is the lack of capability to add the channel to the list directly. As mentioned, you have to visit the channel, click the icon on the toolbar and then type/ or copy and paste the text of the channel name verbatim to the ADD tab. Later, press the + button to actually block that channel/video. But nevertheless, it still has its uses.

Chrome users can download it free from the Chrome Store. Firefox users may go here to get it.
