As the title of your post suggests, these laptops are for home use. As a home user I did not feel like I wanted to throw a lot of money at a laptop that I wasn’t going to run very high-end software on.

I chose the ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K60IJ. This laptop is right smack in the middle and an excellent bargain listing at just over $500.00. As one of the largest makers of motherboards, ASUSTeK is probably running in some of the laptops you mentioned.

    A quick summary:

    Operating System
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel Pentium T4400 @ 2.20GHz 31 °C
    Penryn 45nm Technology
    4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz (5-5-5-15)
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K60IJ (Socket 478)
    Generic PnP Monitor @ 1366×768
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
    Hard Drives
    488GB Seagate ST9500325AS (SATA)
    Optical Drives
    VIA High Definition Audio

Thought I’d let everyone know that this is one fine laptop for home use and probably one of the most affordable.

Okay well I got my Toshiba Satellite A500/D when Windows 7 first hit the shelves in the shops. My Mom – who rules to this day even more so cause I frikkin love this laptop – bought it for me in a vain attempt to assist in bringing down my electricity bills! It hasn’t worked unfortunately, but I am having a LOT of fun on it.
It’s not a very good processor wise, having only got an intel core duo 2 in it, but generally, with a few tweaks here and a lot of third party software there, it’s actually pretty solid in performance for what I want it to do. I can just about play some pretty good games on it, but generally I use it for listening to music and using a bunch of art programs.

It’s got 4 gig ram, Windows 7 Ultimate, Nvidia GT 230 (not brilliant, but not bad either), and the sound that comes from the speakers is pretty spot on for a laptop, and with the Realtek sound card software and an external speaker set I can crank things up pretty well. It’s got so many USB ports I don’t know what to do with them (I’ve actually got a USB disco ball on one them – that’s how bad it is) but I certainly want to jazz it up a bit with a mousepad I saw somewhere which has a light emitting border around it. I also love the fact that if anything goes super wrong with it, there’s a recovery partition – I’m never keen on partitions anyway, but in this case I’m quite happy for it to be there! I’m not only happy I have it, but I’m also incredibly happy that I didn’t have to fork out the staggeringly exorbitant price of over £800 for it from a high street store!
