The launch of Outlook.com web mail service was viewed as Hotmail re-branding so, many users just to try out the service signed up and started using it. And they loved it! Soon thereafter, Microsoft updated its cloud storage service SkyDrive. Nearly 100% of its interface was changed with a new and modern web design, just to provide a fast and fluid web experience.
The revamped SkyDrive for Windows 8 app claimed it derived its genetic material from the SkyDrive for Windows app with tons of bug and performance improvements under the hood. So let us take a look at it!
Microsoft’s Revamped Cloud Storage Service – SkyDrive
It all begins with the SkyDrive home page, where you could see a tile-based layout of your folders and files. The interface looks nearly identical to Outlook.com’s interface. All the contents contained such as documents, pictures, etc are displayed in a thumbnail layout.

If you do not like the thumbnail layout that is provided by default, you can easily switch to the desired one by selecting the desired view from the upper right-corner of the computer screen.

If you are interested in knowing the information about the desired folder or a file, simply switch to ‘Details pane’ which is the third layout option.

The SkyDrive team has taken care of simplifying the process how you interact with your stuff, by accommodating many common commands into the tool bar that is visible at the top of the page. With it, you can easily create folders/documents, share them and carry out other file operations readily.

For instance, you could move a document in a folder to a new folder or to a folder of your choice. To do this, simply hit ‘Folder Actions’ drop-down arrow and select ‘Move folder to’ option. Then, select the folder of your choice and hit ‘Move’ the selected document will be moved to the chosen folder.

Likewise you can download, delete or embed a folder.
Lastly, if you find it difficult to manage your pictures (finding the most recent one from a bunch of photos) there is sorting option available for you. The option defaults sorting by newest to oldest. Likewise, there is a feature that allows you to customize and save the sort order for any folder.
