Samsung Series 9 Review

Samsung Series 9 is one of the toughest ultrabooks out there with duralumin, material used in the construction of airplanes, as its core manufacturing ingredient. Despite being stronger than Aluminum, this material does not leave its mark on the weight. At just 2.88 pounds, this sturdy machine assures durability, despite being from the class of lightest ultrabooks. However, its whole chassis is not made up of duralumin, but only the base – some part of the deck is made up of high quality plastic.

Samsung Series 9 features chicklet keys on island style keyboard as that of any Samsung notebook out there. Though the keys are more flat, it doesn’t affect the typing speed much. Samsung has added some spice to it by  back-lighting the keyboard. It is best to work in low lights and moreover users can control brightness of light or can even switch it off completely while watching movies at night. The function keys are present on the top row. With the help of these Function Lock feature, you don’t have to press ‘Fn’ key each time to access these functions.

A gigantic touchpad resides just below the keyboard – it offers a smooth and friction-free experience. There are some serious flaws associated with the touchpad when two hands gestures are used. Also, the cursor sometimes acts like having its own mind jumping around the screen. These problems are rarely faced and only when you are controlling the touchpad with two hands. With the help of Synaptics, users can turn off unnecessary gestures and can even go through gesture tutorial videos to learn how to execute them.

Samsung Series 9 is a thin laptop

Samsun Series 9 is one thin laptop! Moreover, the brightness of Samsung Series 9 is one of the strongest factor to lure customers towards it. Excellent performance at extreme angles and bright, vivid and deep colors of this screen are breathtaking. Compared to its Apple counterpart, Series 9 is more vibrant in terms of display. It features a  webcam with a 1.3 megapixels resolution and offers good results. Noise cancellation and clear pictures are its plus points.

Two speakers strips lie on either side of the casing and produce enough sound to fill a small room. While watching movies or playing games, these speakers won’t disappoint you.

Series 9 features a 128 GB SSD instead of conventional Hard drives that enables a faster transfer rate. Fast Start functionality in Series 9 allows it to go in hybrid sleep mode when its lid is closed and wake up almost instantly when the user opens the lid. Sadly, Series 9 doesn’t provide external graphic support and playing high graphic eating games with integrated Intel HD 3000 is no fun.

Price of Samsung Series 9

For the above mentioned configuration, Series 9 is available at the cost of $1199. Indian buyers can own this machine for 86,999 INR. You can buy it from Microsoft, Samsung or any third-party retailer. Cost of this machine is higher than most of the notebooks in market but considering the looks, durability and performance offered by Series 9; the cost is worth it.
