Click on the pinned taskbar icon and you have the application running. Click on it again and you have the same instance appear again. So what do you do if you want to run, multiple instances of any program, like say Internet Explorer or Notepad?

You have 2 options:

1. Right click on the icon and click on the the program name again. In this case Notepad.

multiple instances

2. Press Shift key and click on the icon.

You can thus run multiple instances of programs form the Windows 7 taskbar, even when a first instance of that program is running.
